Few things in life are harder than creating a good stop motion video. As the viewer, you see a minute worth of footage – what you don’t see are the blood, toil, tears and sweat and the four days it took to create all that. Also: lots of sticky notes. This clip was conceptualized, designed and shot by hard boiled journalist and all-around nice guy Stephan Vegelien and me (voice-over by Marloes ten Kate) as a promotional video for The Challenge, a competition for young journalists by the Stimuleringsfonds for the Pers. The Challenge encourages upcoming and recent graduates in media-related studies to develop innovative ideas for the Dutch press. Winning the competition means getting the Tegel Future Award and a starting capital of up to 20,000 euros.
